On 13/07/ 2021, a team of AMU scientists (Prof. Anna Preis, Dr. Jan Felcyn, Maciej Buszkiewicz, and Robert Gogol) went on site inspection for one of the wind farms in central Poland. The farm is situated near the main road, partly on one side and partly on the other side.
During the on-site visit, it was possible to see most of the farm. The work of the turbines was obeyed. Due to the little windy weather, the turbines worked at only 20% of their power, which had a direct impact on the sounds they generated. Over a dozen shots of turbine operation from different distances were recorded, using various techniques (both binaural and ambison), enriching the sound layer also with video shots in the 360-degree technique.
The moment of start and stop of the wind turbine and its positioning (rotation) in relation to the wind direction were recorded. The team met with an employee of the local GPZ (main power point) who was very helpful and provided all the necessary information.
Binaural recordings are stereo recordings made using a technique designed to simulate human hearing. Otherwise it is called binaural. It is mainly about keeping the same distance between the microphones as between the human ears and keeping the shape of the head. Ambisonic recordings are spatial recordings made using the four-channel technique, which allows for complete mapping of the sound sphere around the measurement point.
